Last Weekly Reflection

Last Weekly Reflection  I saw my progress over the last two weeks and I was really impressed with how much I improved from the first day. I definitely made mistakes, but I learned from them. The biggest thing I learned was to take the lessons from my mistakes and use them to correct my mistake the next time. I also discovered that I did not need to be worried about maintaining concentration and focus, it was not going to be a struggle for me.  I really enjoyed drawing articles of clothing that are important to me and that holds symbolic weight. I also enjoyed drawing tools of the Garment industry. I enjoyed fully creating something from start to finish.

Day 12

Tuesday, May 23  Today, I woke up and reflected on my senior project. I was a bit disappointed to be back at school and that my project had ended. I still had some things I needed to do before the big presentation day on Wednesday. I spent a good amount of time editing my presentation along with my blogs and I planned out my reflection. Once I had my daily plan down, I met with Carrie over Zoom to go over my slide show. I wanted to make sure I had covered everything in the presentation that I had done over the last 2 weeks. We worked from 2:00 to 4:00 and got almost all of my work in the slideshow.     hrs logged 2 Total hrs logged 88

Day 11

Friday, May 19th Today was me and Beth's final day to finish these pants we worked from 12:00 to 5:00. And in those five hours we finished everything. we did the flat felt side seem to sew the pants together. then we needed to add a waste band which we did along with beltloops which were too thick for my machine so Beth used her industrial machine and the thick bunched denim still broke 5 or 6 needles. then finally we made a button hole, put on a button, and hemmed the bottom of my jeans and we were done.  hrs logged 5 final hrs logged 86

Thursday, May 18th Today we continued working on my pants I worked with Beth from 10:00 to 7:00 possibly our longest day of all. we worked a lot on pocket scale and pocket stitching. we worked on planning the construction of the pants, and I learned different seem finishes. hrs logged 9 total hrs logged 81

Wed, May 17  Today I met with Carrie and we worked from 12:00 to 6:00 we worked on the third still life. in each drawing the subject matter is street culture, clothing that is meaningful to me and has symbolic weight, and the tools the garment industry. my drawing today focused on learning how to draw sight size meaning the size I see it from where I'm sitting. I learn how to use a grid to proportion the drawing. before senior project I would not have been able to draw anything close to these still life during this time I have improved tremendously.  hrs logged 6  total hrs logged 72

Weekly Reflection

Weekly Reflection  This past week I learned so much.  I learned what commuting to school meant.  I had to drive myself 35 minutes each way as opposed to a brief walk three minutes across campus.  I learned planning meals to fit into my sessions. I learned that I can focus for four hours when it's on something I really enjoy.  Though these tasks still require attention and stamina, I am energized by the topic, I don't feel bored, I feel engaged. I realized that I like both sewing and drawing very much.  It is hard to choose one over the other, though they are completely different modalities, that required completely different skill sets.  I was reminded that having great teachers (as I do at Proctor) matters. This week gave me a glimpse of what the rest of my year and the next few will look like, and I am excited about that.
